“The National Day of Service is a fantastic way for people to get involved and share in this historic event,” says Sally Zive, President and CEO of United Way of Treasure Valley. “Idahoans have always looked after their neighbors, and we’re proud to be a part of a day that celebrates that spirit of community building.”
United Way has organized fourteen service projects at ten different agencies in the Treasure Valley. The events are staged throughout the day, and incorporate a wide array of community service opportunities for volunteers of all ages and abilities. Projects include winterizing homes for those in need, sorting food and clothing donations, a blood drive, sprucing up and renovating service facilities, children’s science education, reading to pre-schoolers and spending time with Veterans.
Local organizations participating in the Renew America Together: Commitment to Service project include United Way of Treasure Valley, Boise Rescue Mission, Idaho Foodbank, Giraffe Laugh Early Learning Center, American Red Cross, CATCH, The ARC, Idaho State Veteran’s Home, Boys and Girls Club of Ada County, The Discovery Center of Idaho and the Caldwell Housing Authority.
To learn more about each project and to reserve a space, register online at www.unitedwaytv.org/volunteer or contact Neva Geisler, United Way Director of Volunteer Engagement at 336-1070 ext. 122.
The registration deadline is Friday, January 16. Participation is limited to 300 volunteers.

Dress A Child
Dress A Child is an event put on by the Salvation Army and JCPenny's to help young kids enjoy the excitement of the Holiday Season.
After getting up really early Dominick poses with his shopping buddy Miss Idaho Int, and his mom at the Dress A Child event at JCPenny's.
Miss Idaho Int-Lisa Hamman, Miss Teen Star Stephanie Birkinbine, Miss Boise Andrea Espinosa, and Miss Teen Wilder Amanda Foster took some very deserving children on some pre-Christmas cloths shopping.
Dominick picked Lisa out of the crowd to help him find some cool new clothes at Dress A Child. The two had a blast finding the stuff that Dominick needed and wanted the most this winter
